Cicadas

May 14th, 2004

washingtonpost.com: Washington Post special events section

Seventeen years ago was not the thing we know today. None of these cicadias have email addresses.

first there was one. Or, I thought there was. Then a truck went by. Then there wasn’t any. Did I hear it? Hours went by. In the thick of rush hour there was first one, then there were two. I wonder if I’ll get used to this sound? I wonder if I’ll be able to comprehend the sound of onc cicadia, must less just two, in a week.

Communism solves the Last Mile problem

May 10th, 2004

In the field of telecommunications and the last mile of connectivity between people’s homes and the fabric of the network has remained an unmet challenge in Amer’ca. The russians, however, have been working on this for over a generation and have found a possible solution. See, in the communist era they wired all the homes with a three-channel radio network. Now they’re going to convert to a system similar to cable tv in the states. Every home with a TV (about 85%) will get a box that brings in radio, television, and . Wow.

recharging

May 7th, 2004

Many things have happened this week. Among them, I got my camera battery charger back so i’ll be able to start again with the snapshots.

Also, 12 hours after opening up a mailserver to an email address I haven’t used in about four years got 35 spams.

Spamfiltering will be my first priority. :/
