Sticker seen on a paper towel dispenser. Mine are on order.

When I worked for the Post Office I saw a sticker that looked like it had been on a paper towel dispenser for 20 years.  It read “Why use TWO when ONE will do?”

This is always my never ending question with the environment — what is better? Paper towels or washing and drying cotton towels? Cotton towels take up resources to make and even more, you are consuming energy (and water) to wash and dry them. I suppose the best option is to wash them and hang them out to dry?

Being “eco responsible” seems to be very confusing. For instance, some say to use paper plates instead of plastic at a picnic because paper is bio-degradable and trees are a renewable resource. Also, plastic leaches toxins into your body when you eat off of it. Where others say plastic is better because you want to save trees and you want an item that you can wash over and over. Then you hear the argument to use china instead of plastic, but apparently the ceramic process is much harder on the environment than like a thousand paper cups.

I like the sticker. But I still want better answers!
