Can’t sleep, burning

I can’t sleep. I had a vivid dream.

It was sometime in the future…
I was in Cleveland Hights with several people including two from work, Matt Jeebus and Big Ben. We were all going to a party. I had had a wierd day (or perhaps previous dream?) and really looked forward to the event. The news that day was dreadful, with lots of speculation about the war. I rode in the back seat to the party and watched the sky out the window. As we parked, I saw a bright light. I noticed it was a bomb. Not just a bomb, but it looked just like the nuke on display in the Smithsonian. I saw the propelling rocket go out as the light of the city reflected off of the painted casing. I looked at one of my friends and asked if they thought Israel (?) would bomb us and if so, what each of us would do. We talked about this hypothetical situation until we got to the building. I didn’t tell them about what I had seen, it didn’t seem to matter. I only raised the topic to get ideas flowing. We went inside and went upstairs. People were mingling in the hallway of the building in a way that people do when the electricity is out and suddenly neighbors who never speak are sharing hardship and the contents of their freezer. The end of the world will probably be like that, everyone will be nice to each other. We’ve saved all our niceness this long, better not let it go to waste. It didn’t take long before the initial effects of the radiation began to diminish our enjoyment of the situation. Then the heat. The explosion must have been many miles away because we neither heard nor saw anything before we all started feeling a little weak. Last meal? Who has time for a last meal? Is that my mom? Drunk? Odd. Hey, my cousin is going out on the balcony to watch Cleveland burn. I think I will join… You know, this is really no time for passing along pearls of wisdom you will value for the rest of your life. If you are lucky, the rest of your life will be this evening. If you are very lucky, even quicker. Hey do you think you would die if you jumped from here? Instantly or would you lay in the street bleeding for a while? Oh man, crazy, people are beginning to run around screaming just like in the movies. What’s that? A fire truck? do they not get it?

I woke up. The skin on the back of my left hand was singed. I could still feel the heat.

Now I can’t stop wondering how i will die.
