Each new hour holds new chances
For new beginnings.

from Maya Angelou’s “THE ROCK CRIES OUT TO US TODAY”

In the hallway collegues pass and one says, “what’s up?” The response is variously “same ol’ same ol’” or maybe “different day, same shit.”

She is on day two of what could be considered a sabbatical from the usual routine. Filling out forms and getting a new photograph on an ID badge, timing the train, walking past vendors that she knows she will explore in the coming months.

My office mate is moving on (voluntarily). He’s already passed the milestones of deciding that he must move on, telling that to other people, getting a response, interviewing, and much of the needed paperwork. In one letter (which he expects to receive this week) he will be able to give the last goodbye to this place which has been many things to him … but most recently a frustrating labyrinth of bureaucracy or warring fifedoms of idiots. At least that is what it is from his point of view. Good for him for moving on. I mean that. I like the guy and hope for the best and he’ll be doing interesting work with people he knows he likes.

Now, I’ve got a lot of same ol’ same ol’ to do these days, if you don’t mind.
