Which type of colossal loser are you?
December 23rd, 2003 | by jg3 |Lately I have been visiting a lot of people’s journal/weblog type websites. Lately it seems that they all are publishing their results from and inviting their visitors to join them in taking a quiz to find out “what kind of fill in the blank are you?” or maybe “what character from some television show/movie are you?”. At first, this was mildly amusing. Much like the geek code blocksignature file was amusing for the first, uhm, TWO times … beyond which point all amusement value had been extracted and it was just an overly long, data-deficient waste of bandwidth. And to use it on slashdot (where it shows up often) is totally redundant because if you stay on that site long enough — and you post frequently enough — to have a customized signature file then of course you are a geek. sheesh.
But anyway, back to my ranting … in the last couple of days I have been given the opportunity to see:
which colossal death robot i am
what kind of metalhead I am
what flavor of Tic-Tac I am
what object in some random person’s refrigerator I am (note: wtf?)
which Batman villan I am
which Young Ones character I am
…and I can’t find the one which helps me determine which character from the A-Team I am (dUH, Merdoc of course) but it is out there if you don’t already know, ace.
So it seems that this phenomenon is largely the result of the popularity of the site quizilla.com which just might be the handy work of that guy Andy who sits a few offices down … no, Andy would have much better design. Let us just hope that like Friendster, Quizilla chokes on it’s own popularity.
Wait, popularity (sheesh, this rant isn’t over yet?)?! This quiz thing is eerily similar to the slambooks that people used to pass around in junior high. Hrmmm… I suppose that these quizzes could be by/for those same people … kids these days.
And with that curmudgeony remark, I’m going to end this rant against silly, clean fun.
update: taking any of those quizilla tests is likely to blow up your system with pop-ups and pop-unders. Use discretion when visiting sites with such lame tactics.
